Monday                    104     (2/23)- Ch. 10: The Bill of Rights

Daily Essential question(s):

·         Was the Bill of Rights necessary?

·         How does the Bill of Rights further protect and support the Principles of the Constitution?

·         In what ways are/can our basic rights be limited? Do you agree/disagree? Why?

1)IN- Re-distribute HST textbooks and collect book numbers

2)      Review Tinker  decision and follow up questions:

a.       Criteria for when it IS okay to limit freedom of speech/expression in schools

b.      Considering your topic, make an argument for the following:

o   Is it truly freedom of expression?

o   Does the court’s criteria protect your right to it?

3)      Amendments 3 & 4 power point/packet notes

4)      Partner completion of Amendments 3 & 4 Four Squares

a.       Historical connections

b.      Modern relevance

5)Correct and discuss 10.4 CAQ

a.       Questions?

b.      Scenarios?

c.       What is “due process”? Why is it important?

6)      New Jersey v. TLO (1985)activity- OVERVIEW

a.       Brief description of case

b.      Partner/small group- Was the school justified in their search?

c.       Do you agree with the decision? Why/Why not? (Vote with your feet)

d.      How might this decision apply to you in your life?

7)      OUT-

a.       Seven Principles Graphic Organizer:

o   Have ALL examples typed out

o   Have all titles and principles summaries typed out

b.      Begin/continue studying for the Unit Assessment over Chapters 8-10 at the end of the week.

 

 

Tuesday                    105     (2/24)- Ch. 10: The Bill of Rights

1)      IN- What questions do you currently have about the Seven Principles Project due tomorrow?

2)30 minutes to Work on 7 principles Graphic organizer: (Check in 10.4 CAQ)

a.       Do you have ALL 14 examples selected?

b.      Do you have the text for those examples typed?

c.       Do you have definitions (student speak) for ALL 7 Principles?

d.      Do you have titles?

e.      Have you started writing connections/explanations for how the text examples match the principle?

3)Correct and discuss 10.4 CAQ

a.       Questions?

b.      Scenarios?

c.       What is “due process”? Why is it important?

4)      New Jersey v. TLO (1985)activity- OVERVIEW

5)      Begin reading and CAQ for 10.5, in class. This will be DUE on Thursday and will include:

a.       10.5 CAQ

a.       Continue working on tasks for completion of the Seven Principles Graphic Organizer

o   Have ALL examples typed out

o   Have all titles and principles summaries typed out

o   Have all connection explanations typed out

o   Have poster board, glue, pictures, etc.

Wednesday                         106     (2/25)- Ch. 10: The Bill of Rights

1)IN- 30 minutes to finish 7 Principles Organizer

2)Collect the organizer

3)      Finish reading and CAQ for 10.5

4)OUT-

a.       Finish work for 10.5: CAQ

b.      Begin/continue studying for the Unit Assessment over Chapters 8-10 at the end of the week.

 

 

Thursday                  107     (2/26)- Ch. 10: The Bill of Rights

·         In what ways are/can our basic rights be limited? Do you agree/disagree? Why?

1)IN- Partner discussion and improvement of Amendments Powerpoint notes. Focus on:

a.Historical connections

b.Contemporary (modern/current) connections

c.Check in 10.5 CAQ

2)      Amendments 5-8 power point notes/packet notes.

a.       Clarify meaning

b.      Apply to historical/modern context

c.       Q & A: Scenarios/”What if . .  .?”

3)10.5 CAQ correction and collection.

4)Finish gathering textual evidence for the Unit Assessment CER. It will be completed in class tomorrow.

5)There will be an after-school study/review session for Monday’s test today and tomorrow.

6)OUT-

a.Finish gathering textual evidence for the Unit Test CER for tomorrow.

b.Continue studying for Monday’s Unit 2 assessment.

 

 

Friday                        108     (2/27)- Ch. 10: The Bill of Rights

1)IN- What questions do you currently have about Monday’s Constitution test?

2)Group read and discussion of 10.6  and CAQ

3)      Unit Assessment CER: Must be completed and submitted by the end of the hour

4)There will be an after-school study/review session for Monday’s test today.

5)OUT- Continue studying for Monday’s Unit 2 assessment.
